Businesswoman, Sharon Yartey has disclosed that most ladies wear beads on the ankle for beautification however she won’t wear it to her in law’s home.
Speaking on SVTV Africa, Sharon indicated that as Ghanaians we must embrace all of our cultures and regard every little thing that comes with it. She added that it is accepted during cultural performances and traditional marriage ceremonies so it is not new.
“It is our culture. We wear it at our traditional weddings and cultural displays. The Gas (tribe) wear it mostly. So why is perceived as bad? Do we have to wait for only such days to wear our beads,” Miss Yartey quizzed.
However, Sharon revealed that she would not take it to her mother in law’s house because African mothers can exaggerate.
“Ghanaian and African mothers can talk so I won’t wear it to her house. I know it is not bad but to prevent her from scolding me, I will take it off,” she told host, DJ Nyaami.
Wearing anklets has been a bad trait in Ghana. Some believe that wearing them makes one a prostitute. However, it goes beyond that. The intention of the wearer must be considered.
