The Greater Accra Handball Association (GAHA), is set to introduce a virtual knockout competition for teams in Accra amidst the COVID19 pandemic that has resulted in suspension all physical sports in the country.
Mr. Eric S. Adjeyi, Secretary-General of the GAHA, said in an interview that, the virtual tournament would be run on social media, with all teams in Accra as participants.
He said both the male and the female teams would be engaged in the competition in a 24hour format with voting on Facebook to determine who moves to the next round of the competition.
According to the Secretary-General of GAHA the virtual tournament is purely meant for fun and to keep their players active during the pandemic.
“It would also give us the opportunity to test popularity on social media, build their fan base online, and entertain all handball lovers and followers.
“The only selection that will be done would be facing each other in an online match of votes as well as keep them active and safe,” he stated.
He said website link to fixtures, time, and date would be shared on all our platforms to enable the teams to follow the virtual tournament from the comfort of their homes.
He charged all handball lovers to remember to adhere to all safety measures in order to reduce the spread of COVID19.
Mr. Adjeiyi said qualified teams have been slotted for the eKnockout Competition which kicks off on Saturday 23rd May 2020 at 8:00 am.
