Ghanaian teacher Bernice Apamasu, currently living in Ghana Akropong Daaba, recently appeared on SVTV Africa Connect with DJ Nyaami to share an emotional story — her search for a childhood friend, Constant Bekwen.
Bernice recalls meeting Constant while attending basic school at 4BN Barracks. Later, they both attended school near the Komfo Anokye Hospital area. They often went for services at the GEE Building before their class was moved to the Complex. Due to certain circumstances, Bernice was relocated to Stationeries, near the Confidence food joint, where she met Constant.
“She was very kind to me,” Bernice shared. “We became friends before the Ghana@50 celebrations. Then, she left.”
According to Bernice, Constant’s father worked at the WAD (Works and Housing) quarters and was later transferred to Wa. Before the move, the family lived near Bekwai Roundabout and owned a shop there. After the transfer, Bernice lost all contact with her friend. She remembers that Constant was the only girl among older brothers and that they were members of the Roman Catholic Church.
Bernice has made several attempts to find Constant over the years. She even visited their former school but was denied access to any records due to privacy policies. “When I search her name online, nothing comes up,” she said. “But I’m sure I’d recognize her face if I saw her.”
They once took a photo together, but unfortunately, it was lost in a house fire five years ago. Bernice hasn’t seen or heard from Constant in almost eight years. “She gave me a number, but I lost it. She was a very good friend, and I’ve missed her.”
Bernice now teaches at Orono New Life International School and visits her mother during vacations. She estimates Constant would be between 29 and 32 years old today. Although Constant transferred schools around class 5 or 6 and didn’t attend JHS with her, Bernice still holds onto the hope of reconnecting.
“I’m looking for Constant Bekwen — if anyone knows her or her family, please help me find her,” she appealed.
