Joe, a Ghanaian who has been living in the US for almost two decades stated that his wife and kids are in Ghana because he wants them to grow and be acquainted with Ghana’s culture before coming to the US.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Joe mentioned that he gives the best life in Ghana, one he could not afford if they were in the US. He added that he plans on bringing them to America as adults, so they do not lose their identity.
“My concern should be on my wife instead because long-distance marriage is hard but I decided to keep the kids there. If you send your kids to the best schools in Ghana, they build connections with influential people. Raising kids abroad helps them because there are more opportunities here than in Ghana.
I work almost 14 hours every day, I won’t have the time to raise them and society will take up that role if you don’t. I can’t afford the lifestyle they have in Ghana. I pay almost GHS20,000 for their school fees, so I believe they are better off there,” he said.
Joe added that he believes his children are well-protected in Ghana. The father of three said that he plans on returning to Ghana after retirement.
