US-based Ghanaian lawyer Aba disclosed that she earned about Ghs20,000-Ghs30,000 as a corporate lawyer with nine years of experience in Ghana but she had to leave the country.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Aba indicated that she was very comfortable in Ghana with her job and finances. However, she had to relocate to the US after she got married.
“I was very very comfortable in Ghana but marriage brought me to the US. I wouldn’t have left Ghana if it were not for the sake of marriage. I had my whole life in Ghana, so there was no need to relocate and I visited the US often.”
Speaking on the recent influx of Ghanaians travelling abroad, Aba said that it is understandable for Ghanaians to want to leave the country due to the economic crisis and recent happenings.
“If you asked me this question before I visited Ghana in January, my response would have been different. I realized that Ghana is really deteriorating. The Ghana I left behind and what I saw is very different.
Even if you make the GHS30,000 in Ghana now, you’ll spend it all on the inefficiencies in the system. The system in Ghana does not help the citizens. So travelling abroad is not all about the money, but a better life,” she added.
