Bright Adjei-Kontor, a Ghanaian US Army officer, declared that he would choose America over his home country because America changed his life.
Speaking with DJ Nyaami on SVTV AFRICA, Mr Adjei-Kontor revealed that he applied to join the Ghana Army and the Police Service many times, but he was rejected despite his qualifications. At the time, he applied to the Ghana Army as a medical officer with the highest qualification but was turned down.
“I trained in a military institution, but they rejected me. I had an advanced diploma, and anaesthesia was the most difficult course, but they picked graduates from Legon with a one-year certificate,”
Bright travelled to the US as a medical technical officer and eventually joined the US Army. He talked about how much his life has changed since he moved to the US.
“Unfortunately, those who shut my dream in Ghana may not remember me now, but I wanted to fulfil that dream. So, being an American soldier was to fulfil a dream. Besides that, this country has done for me in the last four years. So much that I could give my life for the country.
As I speak to you, if America calls me to take arms, I’m ever ready to do it in defence of this country. It gave me hope and joy. I’ve been able to achieve my dreams, and I have peace in my family. I will do anything for this country,” he said.
