John Dugan, a Ghanaian based in Italy, stated that he would have become a millionaire if he focused on his skilled job in Ghana.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, Mr Dugan revealed that he set up a big shop in Takoradi where he worked as a carpenter building sofas and more. John said he never realised the importance of the skills he had until he travelled abroad.
“I was comfortable in Ghana. I had a car and a big shop in Kojokrom, but I was drunk on the idea of travelling abroad. I had family abroad, and they often advised me to focus on my job, but I didn’t listen.
I started life right after JHS, thanks to my mom. She pushed me to learn a trade. I started life very early, so I would have been a millionaire if I had focused on my job. I let that Europe idea ruin my business,” he recounted.
According to John, he became intoxicated at the idea of travelling to Europe at 20 years. He wasted 16 years trying to succeed at his Europe dream.
“That idea is like a spirit. You become disappointed if you get hung up on it but fail to make it. It drove me crazy. I went to Cote D’Ivoire, Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, South Africa and back and forth to Libya. My mom passed away during that time. So I didn’t feel at home in Ghana anymore. When I returned to Ghana, I had lost all my customers,” he narrated.
John Dugan shared more on how he made it to Italy after 16 years of trying.
