Turkey-based Ghanaian Gabriel Atobrah stated that he would return to Ghana if he gets a GHS3000 job in Ghana, and he revealed reasons for this assertion.
In an interview on SVTV AFRICA with DJ Nyaami, Gabriel revealed that a travel agent lied about Turkey being a transit point to Europe.
“The agent told me I’d get a bus to Germany from here. Many walk from Turkey to Greece for over six months, but it is worse there. There are fewer jobs in Turkey, but Greece is worse. So I’d rather be here than pass through the forest to Greece,” he said.
In response to whether he would pay an agent to travel to the US or Europe, Gabriel said, “I’ve even lost interest in travelling abroad. I will return to Ghana right now if I find a job that pays GHS3000 in Ghana.
I can save GHS1000 monthly after expenses. I wake up ill every day from the hard work I do here. It’s tough. If I ever think of travelling again, I’d need assurance of a working permit before I leave.”
Gabriel has been in Turkey for five years. He left just before his wife gave birth. His son is five years, but he has not met him.
