Comfort, a guest on Business Link, shared her inspiring story of building a successful business in Ghana after deciding not to settle abroad. According to her, no matter the challenges, Ghana remains a good place for her. “If I focused on complaints, I wouldn’t have been able to establish a business here,” she said.
Her time in New York influenced her business approach and gave her the vision to expand. Today, her shop—C and Tai Hardware—is located at Tema Community 9, close to the main market. They sell a variety of products including hardware items, plumbing supplies, tissues, sponges, and washing powder. The shop also offers free delivery within Tema using an “aboboyaa” (tricycle).
Comfort emphasized that doing business in Ghana requires determination. “If you really want to succeed here, you have to make up your mind and start, even if it means beginning small. Many are afraid, but you don’t need a big shop at the start—build gradually,” she said. “In the beginning, we had only a few items, but now the shop is fully stocked.”
She encouraged those who already own businesses to remain focused and not rush to travel abroad in search of better opportunities. “If you have something running, hold onto it. Don’t give up everything just to travel,” she advised.
Comfort also highlighted plans to expand the business with new branches in the Afienya area.
Her worker, Joseph, helps manage the shop while she’s away. Comfort described him as honest and trustworthy, saying he doesn’t steal or take advantage of her absence. Joseph himself expressed a desire to one day open his own shop, promising to uphold the same values. “You may fire many people before finding the right one, but eventually, the right person will come along,” Comfort stated.
Another supporter of the business, ppnicknamed “Wicker”—also assists Comfort and praised her generosity and guidance. “She opened this shop not just for profit but to support the community. She’s shared so much wisdom with us,” Winter said.
Comfort concluded with a message to the youth and fellow entrepreneurs: “Create jobs, support your workers, and treat them with respect. When you do that, you’re not just building a business—you’re building lives.”
