Meet Abdul Salam Haruna Yeboah – The Chartered Accountant Making Waves in Ghana’s Honey Business
Abdul Salam Haruna Yeboah, a Ghanaian Chartered Accountant based in Obuasi, Ashanti Region, is proving that you don’t have to rely on just one income stream to succeed. Though he works with Ghana’s Controller and Accountant General’s Department, Abdul has ventured into a thriving side business—honey production and distribution—through his brand, Abdul’s Honey Hub.
According to Abdul, depending solely on a 9-to-5 job isn’t enough in today’s economic climate.
“You can’t stay in one profession and expect to thrive. I wanted to add something valuable to my career, and honey was a natural choice,” he says. He discovered that he makes more income from his side hustle than from his main salary.
Abdul has been a professional accountant for the past three years. Before that, he taught at GED, but due to the low salary, he decided to switch careers. However, even after becoming an accountant, he realized the financial situation hadn’t improved significantly. That’s when he decided to take his future into his own hands and start something on the side.
The turning point came about seven months ago after he encountered content from Obeng Darko, which motivated him to begin the honey business. He partnered with a reliable supplier and started distribution. Since then, Abdul’s Honey Hub has grown rapidly, with many customers placing large orders—some even taking away gallons of honey at once.
Abdul encourages young professionals to explore side businesses.
“The only way to take money from people’s pockets is to provide value,” he explains. He uses social media to advertise his honey daily and receives customer feedback almost immediately. He schedules deliveries early in the morning, on weekends, or after work.
His honey products are well-packaged in different sizes:
-
25-liter gallon: GHS 1,650
-
5-liter gallon: GHS 380
-
500ml bottle: GHS 50
-
250ml bottle: GHS 30
He has set up distribution centers where customers can conveniently pick up their orders. He also supplies to local markets and sells door-to-door with his honey-packed bags.
“Sometimes, I bring honey to the office, and by the time I leave, everyone has bought some,” he shares.
Despite being laughed at by some for being a chartered accountant selling honey, Abdul remains proud.
“The same people laughing at you today will be the ones praising you tomorrow. Even market women selling basic groceries make good money. We need to stop looking down on certain jobs.”
He emphasizes that in Ghana, opportunities are endless—but people often lack the right information.
“Many are waiting to rent a big shop before starting. That’s not necessary. Start small. Get your hands dirty. It’s the information that matters, not just capital.”
Abdul is on a mission to break the stereotype around white-collar jobs and inspire more people to build wealth from the ground up.
“If you can’t make it in Ghana, I don’t know where else you can,” he says confidently.
