Josephine Yaa Amponsah, a general nurse based in Adeso, Upper West Akyem District, Ghana, is also the owner of Jose Foods. On April 4th, she celebrated 11 years in nursing. In addition to her nursing career, she runs a side business selling Shito, bread, banku, tilapia, and fried rice. Her family’s legacy has inspired her to continue selling bread, which was her mother’s business, and banku, which is also a family venture. They also rent wheelbarrows in the mornings and sell food in the evenings.
Josephine works the morning shift as a nurse, then helps with the food business in the evening. She credits her business success to the support of her family, with her siblings also helping with the shop. She believes that opportunities exist in all professions and that “dirty jobs” can lead to success, encouraging others not to dismiss them.
Her inspiration comes from her mother, who was a teacher and baker, as well as her elder sister, who worked in the flour industry. After listening to Obeng Darko’s platform, Josephine decided to start her business and now employs others. Her company, Jose Foods, operates at Success Junction in Adeso. She sells a variety of goods, and the area is known for its pineapple factories, alongside other businesses like shops selling provisions, shoes, cosmetics, and drinks. You can find her business on social media under the handle @josefoods51.
