Kofi Mukaase: The CEO Expanding African Cuisine and Shipping Services in the UK
Kofi Mukaase, the CEO of an African restaurant in the UK, is making significant strides in the food and logistics industry. In an interview with DJ Nyaami on Business Link, he discussed his restaurant, upcoming events, expansion into deliveries, and the challenges of running a business in the UK.
This summer, on May 3rd, Kofi Mukaase will be hosting an event at Slaps the Brick, where he plans to introduce new additions to his restaurant’s menu. One major update is the introduction of delivery services starting in May. Customers have been requesting deliveries, and to meet demand, the restaurant will also introduce family meal packages to make dining more convenient and affordable.
He acknowledged that while African shops in the UK sell traditional ingredients, they tend to be expensive. To address this, Kofi Mukaase imports fresh ingredients directly from Ghana, ensuring authenticity and affordability for his customers.
Kofi Mukaase revealed that setting up a business in the UK is not easy, especially when it comes to finding a suitable location for a restaurant. Although business registration is straightforward, securing a restaurant space is expensivedue to high rental costs and premium charges. Some landlords demand upfront premium payments of up to £150,000 before rent even begins, making it difficult for small businesses to establish themselves.
Additionally, the UK tax system requires business owners to pay up to 20% in taxes, with annual tax returns that must be filed diligently. Many entrepreneurs who wish to expand their businesses struggle with these financial burdens.
Recognizing the difficulties many Ghanaians face in transporting goods between Ghana and the UK, Kofi Mukaase expanded into the shipping industry. His company offers door-to-door shipping services, ensuring that goods arrive from Ghana to the UK and vice versa within 3 to 5 days via air cargo.
For those unable to shop for African products themselves, Kofi Mukaase’s team provides personal shopping services. Customers can simply call, provide a shopping list, and have their items delivered directly to Ghana.
Kofi Mukaase currently employs multiple staff members, and his restaurant is located in Slough, UK. In addition to running his restaurant and shipping company, he also manages a part-time job, making efficient use of his time to grow his business.
With two years of independent business experience, Kofi Mukaase is steadily building a strong presence in the UK’s African food and logistics market, making life easier for Ghanaians both at home and abroad.
