Ewurama, a Ghanaian Midwife and a Business Woman based in Connecticut, USA, was featured on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide show with DJ Nyaami. She has been living in the U.S. for between 5 to 10 years but originally hails from Koforidua, Ghana.
Reflecting on her journey, she shared that she did everything in Koforidua before relocating, including attending senior high school, university, and pursuing a career in midwifery. She was popular in high school and even served as a prefect. Although moving to the U.S. wasn’t something she had planned from the beginning, it was always part of her prayers. Her mother was already in the U.S., so she knew she would eventually join her. However, she admitted that adjusting to life abroad as an adult was challenging.
Upon arriving in the U.S., Ewurama had to transfer and evaluate her academic transcripts. Fortunately, some of her Ghanaian credits were accepted, allowing her to complete her studies faster. She highlighted the difference between education in Ghana and the U.S., pointing out that in America, students have academic advisors to guide them through their courses, something she believes Ghana lacks.
Currently, she works in the healthcare sector while continuing her education. She acknowledges that the people who host you when you first arrive in a foreign country play a significant role in making things easier. She took her time researching schools and making decisions independently.
Ewurama expressed her intention to eventually help Ghana with the knowledge she has acquired, but she does not plan to permanently relocate. She has observed that some Ghanaians who get opportunities abroad fail to utilize them wisely. She explained that the cost of living in the U.S. can be high, with rent reaching $2,000 while some people earn only $3,000. She believes that while America provides opportunities, it is up to the individual to make the most of them. Some people succeed while others struggle, often due to living beyond their means or feeling pressured by social media to impress others.
She describes herself as a student and worker, admitting that she is still financially dependent on her mother since she cannot afford rent yet. During a recent visit to Ghana, she humorously noted that the heat was overwhelming compared to the cold she was used to in the U.S.
Regarding her education, Ewurama plans to continue studying until she achieves her goals. In the U.S., becoming a midwife requires a master’s degree, which she is currently pursuing. However, she also has other degrees that she plans to utilize in different ways.
On her personal life, Ewurama revealed that her husband is in Ghana. They were in a relationship before she moved to the U.S., and she later returned to Ghana to marry him. Despite the challenges of a long-distance marriage, she says it is manageable, and they are in the process of migrating him abroad.
Beyond her education and job, Ewurama is also a businesswoman. She runs an e-commerce store, works as a marketing manager for a company in Ghana, and serves as the U.S. representative for a roofing company in Ghana. She prides herself on being reliable and ensures that any interested clients are connected with the right managers. With her ability to multitask, she is determined to make the most of her opportunities both in the U.S. and Ghana.
