Nene Joojo, who once featured on a song with Kwabena Kwabena, seemed to disappear from the music scene after that collaboration.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle GH, he shared his story, revealing that in 2016, he had the opportunity to feature on two songs on Kwabena Kwabena’s album. However, after some time, he stepped away from music to focus on other important ventures and to Huslte.
He explained that talent alone is no longer enough to succeed in the music industry—you need connections and people who believe in you and are willing to push your work.
“You can create a great song in the studio, but without financial backing and the right industry support, you won’t go far,” he said.
Nene Joojo describes himself as a contemporary highlife artist but had to pause his music career to focus on survival. He hopes to return to music with the help of an executive producer. He recalled how Kwabena Kwabena discovered him when he was a rapper and advised him to switch to singing. With time, he matured as an artist, and Kwabena Kwabena featured him on the Daakye album, giving him exposure.
Despite the challenges, he remains grateful for the support he received.
“Kwabena Kwabena has done a lot for me. Times are tough, but I still hold on to highlife music,” he stated.
At one point, he worked as a driver for his boss to make ends meet, but he still believes in his passion. He acknowledges that some people see highlife as outdated, but for him, it remains a proud and significant genre.
