Mr. Ed, a Ghanaian living in Switzerland, returned as a guest on SVTV Africa’s Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami to discuss the challenges of migration, relationships, and life abroad.
According to Mr. Ed, obtaining legal residency (Nkrataa) in Switzerland is difficult, as the country does not easily grant asylum to Ghanaians. He explained that if an asylum request is denied, the government often offers financial assistance before deportation. Unlike in some other countries, asylum seekers in Switzerland cannot easily use friends’ documents to secure residency, as authorities conduct strict checks, and being reported by someone can lead to deportation.
He also noted that the Ghanaian community in Switzerland is small, and those who migrate there face a complex system that has not changed much over the years.
Mr. Ed touched on a common issue among Ghanaians abroad—jealousy and lack of support for one another. He observed that some Ghanaians struggle to obtain basic things like a driver’s license because of the negative attitudes of others. Instead of helping each other succeed, he said, some individuals envy those who make progress.
Discussing his personal experiences with relationships, Mr. Ed revealed that he had been in relationships with multiple women but had faced various challenges. He mentioned that many women he encountered lacked a sense of responsibility when it came to raising children. He shared his experience of living with a woman who would wake him up at night to take care of their child, handle chores, or respond to unreasonable demands.
He advised Ghanaian men seeking to build a stable life abroad to be cautious about whom they marry. According to him, some single mothers abroad may not align with their vision for the future. He stated that if a man wants to start life seriously, he should be mindful of choosing a supportive partner.
Mr. Ed also spoke about his experiences dating single mothers, revealing that one of his past partners had a history of abusive relationships. He recalled a situation where he helped take care of her children, only to later face police intervention due to conflicts between her and her ex-husband. He emphasized that men should be careful when getting involved with single mothers, especially if legal or custody battles are involved.
Additionally, he warned about women who take advantage of government benefits, stating that some single mothers rely on social support and deceive men for financial gain. He noted that many of these women are active on TikTok, looking for new relationships but often jumping from one partner to another.
Mr. Ed recounted a shocking experience where an ex-partner falsely accused him of inappropriate behavior, resulting in multiple arrests. He claimed that she deliberately made false allegations in an attempt to have him deported to Ghana and even manipulated the legal system to cut him off from his child’s life.
Additionally, she later married a Ghanaian man who had previously lived in Qatar, convincing him to settle in Ghana and marry her traditionally. However, the man later discovered her being unfaithful with another partner, leaving him stranded in Ghana. Mr. Ed noted that the man would have been better off staying in Qatar rather than falling victim to her deception.
He expressed frustration over how some women misuse the law against men, leading to unjust consequences. He advised men to be cautious in relationships, especially when dealing with manipulative individuals.
Despite his experiences, Mr. Ed remains hopeful about settling down with a responsible partner. He expressed his preference for marrying a woman from Ghana and bringing her abroad, rather than continuing to deal with the challenges he has faced with women overseas.
He concluded by encouraging Ghanaians abroad to focus on building a stable life rather than getting caught up in unnecessary drama. He also urged men to seek partners who align with their goals rather than making decisions based solely on physical attraction.
According to him, “If you lose a sensible woman, you might as well marry your mother because finding another one like her is rare.”
