Canadian Returnee Reflects on Life Abroad and Ghana’s Opportunities
Original Don Diego, a returning guest on Daily Hustle Worldwide with DJ Nyaami, shared his experiences as an immigrant in Canada and his recent realization about Ghana’s economic potential.
He initially believed there was no money in Ghana, but upon returning, he noticed his friends were doing better than him. One of his friends, who sells phones, is thriving, proving that success in Ghana depends on strategic planning. This realization has led him to consider relocating back to Ghana.
Diego emphasized that life abroad is not as easy as people assume. Securing legal documents is crucial for survival, as immigrants face deportation risks, especially under conservative governments. He advised newcomers to focus on legalizing their stay, saving money, and avoiding unnecessary expenses like luxury spending and frequenting nightclubs.
He also noted that many immigrants struggle financially despite high earnings because of high living costs. He has helped relatives in Ghana complete their education and build houses but admitted that saving $10,000 annually is difficult.
Diego believes Ghana has great potential, and if he had enough capital, he would invest in the construction sector, leveraging his expertise. He also shared that some Ghanaians he advised against moving abroad later regretted their decision.
With the upcoming Canadian elections, he expressed concerns about conservative policies, fearing stricter immigration laws. Despite having secured his residency, he worries about the future of fellow immigrants.
His story highlights a growing trend of Ghanaians abroad reconsidering their stay and recognizing business opportunities back home.
