UK Home Office Arrests Four COS Holders for Using False Documents at Workplace
Nana Aidoo, a Ghanaian based in the UK, reports that immigration officers recently conducted a raid at their workplace.
Nana Aidoo made this revelation during a chit-chat with DJ Nyaami on Daily Hustle, a worldwide show.
He recounted how a suspicious van had been parked nearby, raising concerns among officials. This led them to investigate a bus stationed in front of the workplace.
During the operation, officers checked everyone’s ID, took fingerprints, and uncovered that some individuals were using documents that did not belong to them.
These individuals had their own Certificates of Sponsorship (COS) but were unable to secure jobs with them, so they resorted to using other people’s documents to work.
When the Home Office conducted fingerprint checks, they found that the documents were legitimate, but the individuals presenting them were not the rightful owners. This led to serious consequences for both the document holders and those using them fraudulently.
Once the shift ended, immigration officers apprehended the offenders. The company was also at risk—if they failed to report illegal workers, they could face fines of up to £40,000.
The four individuals arrested were from Ghana and Sudan. They were limited to working only 20 hours per week under their visa conditions, but in an attempt to work longer hours, they used someone else’s documents.
Among those arrested was a Ghanaian man with a family back home who depended on him financially.
Another individual was reportedly married but had no idea where their spouse was living. The fingerprint and ID discrepancies made it clear why people are reluctant to share their documents with others.
Additionally, the company reportedly provided employee details to immigration authorities, which contributed to the arrests. This incident serves as a warning to those attempting to work illegally in the UK.
