Mr Silas, the CEO of Sidom Doors, joined the “Daily Hustle Worldwide” show as a returning guest.
Based in Finland, Silas is a businessman who operates in both Ghana and Finland.
He began his talk by emphasizing the importance of finding one’s purpose in life.
According to Silas, understanding why you’re on Earth and what your contribution will be is crucial before embarking on any business venture.
He believes that regardless of the path you choose, success will follow once you align with your purpose.
Silas shared his perspective on life, stating that no one truly “wins” in life, and anyone who claims to be winning is, in a sense, losing.
He encourages embracing the experience of life fully, including taking risks, as everyone is bound to die someday. The game of life should be played boldly without fear of taking chances.
He reflected on common reasons why many African businesses struggle, pointing out that familiarity with one’s own environment often prevents success.
For business to thrive, the owner must stay deeply involved, rather than relying entirely on employees.
Mr Silas stressed that if business owners push all the responsibility onto their workers, it could lead to failure, especially when employees resign.
He also discussed the importance of long-term thinking. The actions and efforts you make today shape your future.
Therefore, focusing on the present and working diligently will determine your success in the coming years.
The key to business success, according to Silas, lies in the power of the mind—eliminating doubt and fully committing to your goals.
Silas shared his entrepreneurial journey, starting from a small investment in 2008. With just 5,000 GHC, he bought a Nissan Premier, sold it for a profit, and moved into mobile phone sales.
He expanded his business by taking on larger orders and using the profits to open additional branches.
He eventually bought land and even took out a bank loan to start a taxi business.
When he moved to Norway, Silas ventured into selling home-used goods and found success by recognizing market trends and identifying products that would appeal to the Ghanaian market.
His door business began when he struggled to find the right doors in Accra, leading him to rent a shop and start his own company.
He grew the business, opening branches in various cities across Ghana. Silas revealed that his focus is not just on making money, but on providing quality products and satisfying clients.
He emphasized the importance of employee morale, stating that workers who feel valued and respected will contribute to the company’s success.
Silas’ philosophy in business is rooted in authenticity and discipline. He advises entrepreneurs to start small, understand their market, and never be afraid to fail.
He believes that business success comes from consistently taking the right actions, learning from mistakes, and always staying true to one’s values.
Sidom Doors has expanded significantly, with eight branches across Ghana, including locations in Accra, Tamale, Kumasi, and Takoradi, and plans to open more in Koforidua, Sunyani, and Techiman& Tarkwa.
Silas emphasized the importance of customer satisfaction and listening to their needs to ensure continuous growth. The company also offers online shopping through its website and mobile app, making it easier for customers to purchase doors and related products from anywhere in the world.
Silas’ advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is clear: take risks, stay committed to your purpose, and create the future you desire through hard work and resilience. He encourages everyone to embrace life’s challenges and opportunities with a positive mindset.
Silas shared a story about a time when he bought 400 TVs from a hotel at a discounted price, but the people involved in removing the TVs for transport didn’t approach the situation with a business mindset. He noted that many houses in Ghana are being sold off by families whose businesses have failed or who are facing financial struggles after the passing of a relative. He encouraged people to explore life, learn from experiences, and approach every challenge as a lesson.
Silas also pointed out that many foreign businesses are coming to Ghana, and that local businesses need to be more proactive in order to compete.
He noted that big businesses often focus on profit, while some individuals start businesses just to make quick money and leave the country.
At Sidom Doors, Silas and his team have made it easier for customers to purchase doors through their website and mobile app, offering transparent pricing and the ability to buy with a credit card.
Sidom Doors also works on building houses for clients abroad, providing excellent customer service to ensure satisfaction. They have branches in various cities in Ghana, including Tamale, Takoradi, Techiman, and Dewberry, and continue to expand.
