I Was Scammed £15,000 Trying to Migrate to the UK
Osei Prempeh Agyapong, a Ghanaian, has revealed how he was duped out of £15,000 (approximately 270,000 GHC) by individuals who promised to help him migrate to the UK with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).
Speaking as a guest on Daily Hustle Worldwide Show hosted by DJ Nyaami, the CEO and founder of SVTV Africa, Osei shared his unfortunate experience.
According to him, his sister initially introduced him to someone who claimed they could facilitate his migration to the UK.
“She told me about the opportunity and asked if I would be interested, but I declined. Later, I connected my in-law, and he successfully traveled to the UK. Another person also went through me and got to the UK. Seeing their success stories, I became interested,” Osei explained.
Encouraged by his wife, who mentioned that the same people could help him migrate his entire family, Osei decided to proceed.

He was told the entire process would cost £15,000.
“I initially paid them £8,000, and later, they demanded the remaining £7,000. It’s been more than two years, and I still haven’t seen any visa.
They later told me the process didn’t work and suggested I apply for a warehouse job and travel alone, but that also failed,” Osei lamented.
When efforts to migrate through Europe also proved unsuccessful, Osei demanded a refund, but his requests were ignored.
“I was told to fake a marriage certificate as part of the process, but it turned out that the documents they gave me were fake. I even got the biodata of the supposed ‘fake wife,’ but I’ve never met her, nor do I have her contact details.”
Osei expressed frustration at being ignored by the people who scammed him, including his sister and brother-in-law, who live in Ireland.
“I haven’t heard from them in months. They think they’ve gotten away with it because they believe I can’t do anything to them.”
Reflecting on his ordeal, Osei admitted that he has lost trust in family members and advised others to be vigilant.
“This experience has taught me a lot. If it had been my entire savings, I would have been devastated. I still have some money, but I won’t allow this to happen again.”
He further warned others to conduct thorough investigations before entrusting large sums of money to anyone promising migration assistance.
Osei concluded by saying,
“It was my dream to travel abroad and provide a better future for my children, but this has been a painful and costly lesson.”
