Abdul’s Journey: From Being Duped by Connection Men to Marrying an American Citizen

Abdul recently shared his remarkable story on the Daily Hustle Worldwide Show with host DJ Nyaami.

His journey from financial loss and heartbreak to finding love and a new path in life is both cautionary and inspiring.

In late 2022, Abdul, like many others, was determined to find greener pastures abroad.

His initial plan was to travel to Dubai, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, a connection man duped him out of 5,000 GHC.

Undeterred, Abdul shifted his focus to the United States and explored the treacherous route through Nicaragua, a common path for migrants seeking entry into the U.S.

Abdul sold his two cars—a Hyundai Elantra and a Kia Morning—to fund his journey.

He invested 87,000 GHC into the process, including document preparation, visa arrangements, and plane tickets.

However, the connection man turned out to be fraudulent. Abdul was stranded when his flight plans fell apart, and he discovered that the man he trusted was merely an errand boy working for a bigger scam operation.

Despite his efforts to recover his money, Abdul was only able to reclaim 10,000 GHC from the connection man after months of chasing him.

“I asked him to pay back at least half the money so I could move on, but he kept making promises he couldn’t fulfil,” Abdul recounted.

The financial and emotional toll of the experience left him feeling hopeless.

However, his uncle, who initially encouraged him to take the risk, remained supportive despite the setbacks.

During his lowest moments, Abdul turned to TikTok, where he shared his story out of frustration and depression.

To his surprise, an American woman reached out to him after hearing about his failed attempt to travel to the U.S.

They began talking, and over five months, their bond grew stronger.

The woman eventually traveled to Ghana to meet Abdul, and the two got married.

“If I had succeeded in boarding that flight, I wouldn’t have met my wife,” Abdul reflected. “God had a better plan for me.”

Lessons and Advice for Aspiring Travelers

Abdul now advises others to avoid the mistakes he made.

  1. Avoid Connection Men: If you want to travel, deal directly with embassies and official websites. Research the visa requirements, book your own tickets, and make hotel reservations in advance.
  2. Be Cautious with Money: Don’t sell everything you own or blindly trust others with your funds. Save and invest wisely.
  3. Patience is Key: “Don’t rush into traveling,” Abdul advised. “Sometimes, when you least expect it, the right opportunity will come.”

A New Life in Ghana

Abdul’s wife, who is an American citizen, now lives with him in Ghana.

Together, they are building a business and working on plans for the future.

Abdul credits his failed journey for leading him to a better life than he could have imagined.

Abdul’s story is a reminder that life’s setbacks can sometimes lead to unexpected blessings. His journey from being scammed to finding love demonstrates the importance of resilience, faith, and making informed decisions when pursuing dreams of traveling abroad.
