Samuel’s journey abroad began in 2017 when he secured admission to a university in Russia.
However, he quickly discovered the challenges of adapting to a new language and culture.
Despite initial struggles, including learning Russian and adjusting to being the only Black student in his class, Samuel persevered.
During his time in Russia, he studied mechanical engineering, though the language barrier made it difficult to excel.
In 2019, a conversation with his Russian language teacher introduced him to the idea of moving to Poland to teach English. This marked the beginning of a new chapter.
Samuel’s transition to Poland wasn’t without hurdles.
His first attempt to enter Poland was thwarted due to documentation issues, but his determination saw him through.
After resolving visa challenges and securing proper documentation, he finally entered Poland and began teaching English.
In Poland, Samuel found life to be different from Russia. The lifestyle, opportunities, and environment offered him a fresh start.
He secured a partial scholarship to study in Poland and continued to work hard, balancing studies and work.
Samuel’s journey also came with personal sacrifices. While in Russia, he lost his mother but couldn’t attend her funeral in Ghana due to visa restrictions.
This loss profoundly impacted him, but he remained focused on his goals.
Throughout his journey, Samuel relied on the support of friends and family.
A Nigerian friend he connected with on Twitter played a pivotal role in facilitating his Polish visa process. He spent a month in Nigeria waiting for his visa while staying in an Airbnb apartment in Abuja.
