Australia-based Ghanaian medical doctor, Dr. Himil stated that the act of masturbation is normal and not acknowledged as a mental illness.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Dr. Himil emphasized that masturbation is a normal exploration of the human body and to find answers to one’s questions. He highlighted that it is not listed among the ten recognized personality disorders according to the DSM-5, a widely used manual by mental health professionals around the world.
In addressing common myths surrounding masturbation, Dr. Himil pointed out that it does not lead to physical changes such as penile shrinkage. This is a misconception that many hold.
Instead, he explained that any perceived reduction in size may be due to a lack of use. Additionally, he dismissed the myth that masturbation could cause blindness, reinforcing that such beliefs are unfounded.
“Masturbation has more advantages than disadvantages. However, some mental health illnesses could make an individual masturbate.
Masturbation has effects but it does not cause any form of health condition. Masturbation is behavioral and can be fixed through training. It is not an illness and does not cause penile shrinkage,” he shared.
Overall, Dr. Himil’s insights aim to provide a clearer understanding of masturbation, destigmatizing the practice and correcting misinformation about its effects on the body.
