Ghanaian highlife legend, Nana Quame recently expressed serious concerns about the music industry, describing it as increasingly occultic.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Nana Quame revealed that he turned down a lucrative contract due to an unsettling demand that required him to engage in a ritual involving blood sacrifice.
“Music now is an occultic industry where people drink blood. People are not doing music now. They just want to be powerful. A huge Rock Band wanted to sign me when I first got to the UK.
They took me to a location where I had to cut myself and pour my blood on some deity because that was how they got popular. So I refused to sign it because I’m a Christian and I can’t do that,” he recounted.
This decision highlights his discomfort with the dark practices he believes are becoming more prevalent within the industry. Nana Quame’s stance sheds light on the moral dilemmas artists may face when navigating career opportunities that conflict with their values and ethics.
“Music gave me so many opportunities and I’ve met many prominent people through music. There was no way I’d accept something like that for fame. Many people have become musicians to cover up their actual business and the others just want the girls. That’s why the industry is suffering.”
