Akua Mohammed has dedicated the last forty years of her life to selling roasted corn, a modest yet fulfilling endeavour that supports not only her but also her daughter and three beloved grandchildren.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Akua shared that she spends a meagre 10 cedis daily on food, carefully managing her resources to ensure her family’s needs are met.
Reflecting on her journey, Akua recalled a poignant moment when her son urged her to stop working after he secured a job, hoping to relieve her of her responsibilities.
Tragically, just a few days later, he passed away unexpectedly from what initially seemed to be a simple headache, leaving Akua to continue her work and the legacy of care for her family.
“He got a job at sea and told me to stop working. He promised to take care of me but a month before he could start, he complained of a headache and passed on. My family and I live in a kiosk at Tema. I cater to one grandchild while my daughter cares for the other two.”
DJ Nyaami and the SVTV Africa Foundation team gifted her Ghs1000 after the interview.
