US-based Ghanaian Veteran Charles shared how he fled to Japan after he was wanted for fraud but he turned himself in to the US Army base in Japan.
In an interview with SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Charles mentioned that he was on deployment in Korea and fled to avoid arrest. However, after two years in Japan, he gave himself to the US Army base in Japan and was interdicted to the US for trial in the late 90s.
“I wanted to help the African brothers in Korea because the economy was bad. Even the Koreans wanted to leave. I bought US IDs for two Nigerians but one was caught and told them I did it.
So, I fled to Japan and stayed for two years but it was tough to get a job there. So, I went to a US military base in Japan and they arrested me and brought me to the US,” he narrated.
Charles served in the army for 8 years before his dishonourable discharge in 1999. He went on to study Computer Science and got his Master’s degree in Mathematics. He is currently a Computer Science professor in the US.
