Japan-based Ghanaian veteran artiste Nana Yaw Wiredu disclosed that his ex-wife divorced him because he refused to give his monthly salary to her to keep.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Nana Yaw revealed that his marriage to a Japanese ex-wife ended because he refused to hand over his hard-earned money to her. In Japanese culture, wives typically handle the finances, and husbands are expected to turn over their monthly earnings to their wives, who receive an allowance in return.
“All the man does is work and bring money home and the woman manages the finances. After marriage, she brought it up and I refused because that is not my culture. She asked for divorce based on that and we ended the marriage,” he said.
Nana Yaw claims that certain Japanese women utilize this method to trap them. Some even advise their foreign spouses to purchase homes through mortgages, only to divorce them later to retain ownership of the house.
Nana Yaw Wiredu relocated to Japan in 1996 as the lead dancer of a Japanese dance group. During his time in Japan, he recorded his first single and brought it back to Ghana. However, the song received significant criticism for its lyrics. Despite this, he persevered and later released another hit track.
