UAE-based Ghanaian Francis mentioned that he sold his 3-bedroom house and a car for GHS25,000 to travel to the UAE based on what his agent friend told him about working in Dubai.
Speaking with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Francis made a life-altering decision when he sold his house and car at a bargain price to pursue a new beginning in the United Arab Emirates. He disclosed that he regretted the decision to go to a bunk bed in a shared room upon his arrival in the UAE.
Despite not knowing about the country, he trusted an agent who charged him a hefty $1000 for the visa fee alone. Without verifying the legitimacy of the agent’s claims, Francis proceeded with the payment, only to later realise that he had made a grave mistake.
One of his major regrets was not seeking advice or informing anyone about his plans. The agent had promised Francis a monthly income of $1000 in the UAE, a promise that ultimately did not materialise. He had to search for a job himself.
Francis returned to Ghana within two weeks to process a work visa and returned to the UAE. According to him, starting over in Ghana was not an option.
