CEO of minoHealth AI Labs Darlington Akogo got invited to dine with one of the richest people in the world, Bill Gates for his efforts in tech and artificial intelligence (AI).
MinoHealth Al Labs is one of the companies that received grants as part of the Grand Challenges’ Catalyzing Equitable Artificial Intelligence (Al) Use.’ The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced this. According to Mr Akogo, the funding will go towards developing minoChat: a generative Al (multimodal large language model (LLM)) for Radiology.
Soon after they received the grants, Darlington was invited to join Bill Gates for dinner at his home in Seattle. In an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Darlington mentioned that he was in disbelief until he saw Bill Gates.
“Even after I got the visa and flight ticket, I was still calm and patiently waiting for it to happen. I was managing expectations. I did not even know I was meeting him at his home because I had not read the email in full. We had a rehearsal before leaving for his house.
The head of AI for the US White House was also present. It was a crazy experience. It was supposed to be a two-hour dinner but it went on for four hours. We had a great conversation, and I explained what we do in detail. It’s an experience I’ll never forget,” he narrated.
Minoheath has built Al systems for radiology, microscopy, molecular diagnostics, drug discovery, and several other fields. They conducted the first Al clinical evaluation study in Africa that benchmarked the minoHealth.ai medical image interpretation system against radiologists using data from Ghana, Vietnam and the USA, with the Al outperforming radiologists.
