Dr Kofi Frimpong, a Ghanaian Specialist in Russia mentioned that he returned home to serve Ghana but integrating into the medical field in Ghana was frustrating.
In a chat with DJ Nyaami of SVTV Africa, Dr Frimpong mentioned that he had no plans to stay in Russia after completing his studies. He always wished to serve his country but his future as a medical doctor became bleak upon his return to Ghana.
“I bought a one-way ticket to Ghana and visited the Dental Council to enquire. I knew I would write some exams and was ready for that. A committee is set up to guide you through the exams but it has been dissolved. No one knew when it would be reinstated. I couldn’t waste my time anymore and returned to Russia,” he narrated.
However, in Russia, Dr Frimpong indicated that he had been offered a job at the hospital where he had his Specialty done before he left for Ghana. He said, “I returned to Russia on a Friday, and I was working at the theatre the next Monday.”
According to Dr Frimpong, he chose to study in Russia because it was less expensive. He was the first African to attend medical school in Siberia and was among the ten Blacks in the city.
