UK-based Ghanaian Comfort Anim stated that her ex-husband instructed her not to work or make friends after she joined him in the UK.

In a Daily Hustle Worldwide interview with DJ Nyaami, Comfort mentioned that he imposed strict restrictions on her, forbidding her from going out or finding employment. As time passed, Comfort deeply regretted her decision to come to the UK and wished to return to Ghana at any cost.

“My ex-husband did not want me to make friends or attend any event. He kept the only key to the house and I got locked out. I spent the night at a neighbour’s house and pretended I was locked out the next morning.

At a point, he said Wednesdays were bad days and refused to let the kids go to school. I learnt not to talk and did everything I was told because he shut me up whenever I spoke up,” she said.

After eight years, Comfort’s husband made the abrupt decision to return to stay in Ghana and initiated divorce proceedings. Comfort added that she had noticed warning signs in her husband’s behaviour before their marriage, but she felt helpless in addressing them.

When discussing the warning signs in her relationship, Comfort revealed that her father-in-law objected to signing off on their marriage because he was concerned that she would inherit his properties upon her husband’s passing.

Comfort shared that she has realised the importance of focusing on personal growth and self-improvement before considering marriage again. This includes working on her emotional well-being, career goals, and overall self-development to ensure she is healthy and positive before committing to marriage.
