Ghanaian citizen who willingly joined the Russian Army upon arrival last year shared his experience at the war front and disclosed that he has been hospitalised for seven months now.
Kwasi, (not real name) migrated from the UAE to Russia to work in a factory and decided to apply to the military for the benefits he could obtain. He regarded it as a profession and did not anticipate that he would be sent to the front.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Kwasi disclosed that he signed a one-year contract with the Russian Army. He was duly trained and stayed behind as support to the frontlines. However, he was instructed to join the others in front for a month and two weeks.
“The distance between us and the Ukrainians is only 20 meters. I had to send weapons to the soldiers but I had no one to guide me in where to pass for safety. The opponent threw grenades at me and I decided to return but they kept throwing them.
One hit my helmet and blasted. I fell and lost consciousness but no one could come to rescue me from where I was. I woke up and crawled into a hole, where the Russians saw and rescued me,” he narrated.
Kwasi has been in the hospital since March 2024. According to Kwasi, he had three operations in his left ear, however, he could recover his hearing in that ear.
