US-based Ghanaian Mr Aboagye disclosed that he earned over $100,000 as a teacher in the US due to his decade-old experience in Ghana.
In an SVTV Africa interview with DJ Nyaami, Mr Aboagye mentioned that teachers are compensated according to their experience and qualifications. With significant experience and advanced degrees, earning a salary exceeding $100,000 is possible.
He mentioned that many Ghanaians in the US advised him against pursuing his teaching career after he migrated to the US. Still, I ignored them and researched opportunities available for immigrant teachers in the US.
“A Ghanaian asked me whether it would be possible to teach in the US with his Ghanaian certificate. It is possible. He had over a decade of teaching experience and could earn about $129,000.”
Speaking about teaching in the US, Mr Aboagye said, “It is stressful. It is nothing like what we do in Ghana. I teach only three periods a day but the stress is intense. We are not paid enough for the job we do as teachers.”
