Canada-based Ghanaian Paa Yaw disclosed that he knows about 15 pregnant Ghanaian students who have no idea where their babies’ fathers are.
According to reports from Statistics Canada, the country’s population increased by 1.3 million people in 2023 alone. Most of this was due to immigration, including international students and foreign workers.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Paa Yaw indicated that many have become jobless and homeless due to the population increase. Some immigrant women fall victim to ‘sex for shelter’ exchange leaving them pregnant and helpless.
“Some students have not been here for three months but are pregnant. Most of these men don’t accept responsibility for the child and desert them. There is nothing you can do because you’ve become an illegal immigrant. 15 of them don’t know where their babies’ fathers are and the men won’t accept the kids.”
Paa Yaw added that some international students have decided to stay and plan to have kids and get a stay permit through childbirth. Paa Yaw enlightened viewers that Canada does not grant stay permits to parents until the child turns 18, however the child automatically gets the permit.
