Mr Harry, a Ghanaian entrepreneur stated that Africans who believe they can only succeed by travelling to work in the West is a slavery mentality.
In an interview with SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami, Mr Harry mentioned there are many unexploited opportunities in Ghana, but the youth are blind to them. Many are selective and believe they must work or live abroad for a fulfilled life.
“I’ve worked with the UN in countries like Mali and Cote d’Ivoire, and I will say Ghana is heaven. If we put structures in place, it will be the best place to live. We take some things for granted as Ghanaians but we only notice them after we travel abroad.”
“A lot of people base their decision to travel abroad on hunger. It is the hunger parade that is taking them there. They don’t care if they die or not, so I don’t blame them. But if you believe you can only make it abroad, that is slavery mentally,” he said.
According to Harry, he took on the UN job to save money to start a new business in Ghana. He has been self-employed since 2017 and shared the benefits as well as challenges as an entrepreneur in Ghana.
