Abena Mercedes, a Ghanaian based in the UK revealed that Ghanaian and mostly African immigrants live in fear as UK citizens attack immigrants after a Rwandan teenager stabbed three kids to death.
According to CBC News on July 31, British police charged a 17-year-old with murder over a stabbing attack that left three girls dead and several others in critical condition in Southport.
In an interview with DJ Nyaami, Abena mentioned that some citizens have been protesting since it was revealed that the suspect was Black and a child of immigrants. Since the incident, citizens have been attacking immigrants and the police.
Protesters have also burned down shops and cars, which has caused looting in these areas. According to Abena, they have planned protests across multiple cities including London this month.
“They claim we’ve taken over their jobs and this incident has heightened their anger. The protesters have released dates throughout August for such protests.
I visited the hospital yesterday and an old white lady started cursing at me. The security had to take her away. It has distracted our livelihoods because we are scared to go out,” she said on SVTV AFRICA.
