Yaw Abbrey, a Ghanaian based in the US, stated that he owned three businesses and lived a comfortable life in Ghana but needed to travel abroad when the opportunity arrived.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Yaw mentioned that he worked as an art teacher in Ghana aside from his businesses and was not eager to travel abroad until his wife mentioned it.
“My wife told me his headmaster had a dream that we lived in the US. I just laughed it off then. But I noticed many things about abroad and saw many friends leaving too. So, my wife encouraged me to try it and researched opportunities for teachers.”
Mr Abbrey got direct employment as an Arts teacher with his Ghanaian certificate without any international teaching courses. Yaw, currently teaches Arts at a middle school in North Carolina.
Speaking on the differences in quality of life between Ghana and the US, Yaw said, “I’d prefer to stay here because of accessibility. Everything can be more easily accessible in the US than in Ghana. I had a shop on Etsy in Ghana but the payment system alone was an issue. These are all opportunities.”
