Kuwait-based Ghanaian Agnes has revealed that she informed her parents about travelling abroad but did not disclose her destination for fear of being discouraged.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide on SVTV AFRICA, Agnes mentioned that the information she heard about foreigners working in the Middle East caused her to lie about her destination. Agnes told her family she was travelling to Italy instead of Kuwait to avoid discouragement.
“The agent spoke to the agency about my experience as a teacher even though the job was house help. So, I told people it was a teaching job because they would have discouraged me.
Even my father thought I was travelling to Italy. I spoke to a few people about coming to Kuwait but they all discouraged me except one. I had to lie about my destination.”
Speaking about her experience in Kuwait, Agnes indicated that she was nervous but the family she had was a good one and never mistreated her in any way.
“At my second family, I was locked inside whenever they left the house. I didn’t have my freedom but I understood why they did that. Most of us flee from the house before the contract ends but they’ve paid the agency for us,” she told DJ Nyaami.
