Akua Agudie has stated that whatever money she makes while married belongs to her and that her husband has no share in it.
Speaking on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Akua indicated that despite living in the UK, they are married the ‘Ghanaian way’ where the husband assumes the role of the head and caters to the needs of the family.
She mentioned that they made this choice to prevent a divorce. Many Africans abroad have mentioned that the system is the cause of many divorces among them.
“My husband pays for everything. I haven’t paid rent before and he gives me money for foodstuff. But as a good wife, I buy them when there is a shortage. That’s what we’ve decided.
Splitting the bull may work for others but this is what works for us. Besides, a woman’s money is not her husband’s money. I have family in Ghana that I must take care of. That’s why we live.”
Akua Agudie advised husbands to avoid interfering in the wife’s finances if they want a long lasting marriage.
