The suspect arrested in the Abigail Afiba Tandoh case, Andrew Amechi Otchipo has been reported dead by the Nigerian Police.
Blogger and friend of 11 years, Ben Samuel shared with SVTV Africa the events leading up to Andrew’s death. Ben was in contact with Andrew after he was released on bail. The IGP instructed the police to send him to the Abuja headquarters for further investigation.
“It was strange to me because how would a suspect in transport have his phone and drive his car to the destination? It was a nine-year drive but he told me they stopped in Akwa Ibom and lodged in a hotel. I asked why and he said the police were taking money from him.
They stopped in another state and spent two nights there. I wondered why because he seemed comfortable with the police. The next call from him was that he was running away. I advised him against it and told him to call his lawyer. One hour later, they ‘finished’ him,” he narrated.
According to Ben, he suspected that Andrew was indeed guilty based on the events leading up to his death. However, the reports given to the public completely differed from what he knew.
“I knew the police was lying. That’s why I spoke out. They didn’t tell us they stopped over twice and drove the suspect’s car. It is a shame that up to now, the Nigerian Police have not said anything about the case.”
