US-based Ghanaian entrepreneur Mr ED Asante shared his experience establishing a business in the US as an African.
In an interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Mr ED mentioned that he couldn’t get any approval to build his business and as a result, employed a white man to act in his stead.
“I wanted to build a shopping centre from scratch but it didn’t work until the White man came in. I stayed back and he did everything including securing the licenses and all.
No one knew a Black man was behind it. The only time I showed up was when we needed the final approval. When they found I was the owner, two of them came back to say I needed to pay $45,000 that day to get the approval.”
According to Mr Asante, his experience working in corporate America made him employ a white American. He faced some racial discrimination as a member of the Board of Directors of Radiology and said he had gotten used to it.
Currently, Mr Asante owns several businesses in the US including real estate, a restaurant, a shopping centre, etc
