UK-based Ghanaian Eric Banahene shared how he got his stay permit in the UK while waiting to be deported to Ghana.
Speaking on SVTV Africa, Eric mentioned that a work colleague snitched on him while at work which got him arrested and jailed. Eric had 24 hours to be deported but received his documents in jail without paying a penny.
According to Eric, he had a child with a British citizen but did not qualify for the permit as his child was unregistered at the time.
“The officers told me I had 24 hours to be deported. I realised that some people laugh in your face but they don’t like you. I just prayed to God about it and the same officer who told me I’d be deported brought me documents saying I could stay. I didn’t pay anything and even my lawyer was surprised,” he recounted.
Mr Banahene mentioned that his biggest regret was trusting people. He added that some people threatened him to report him and eventually did.
Eric has been married in the UK for 12 years, with kids.
