Sasha, currently based in Rwanda, fled from war to the UK for shelter but disclosed that his time in the UK was the worst he has ever experienced, adding that Rwanda is much better.
In an interview on SVTV International, Sasha revealed that relocating to Africa as a UK asylum seeker was the best decision he ever made. According to Sasha, he felt depressed in the UK and was ready to take any opportunity to migrate.
In 2022, the UK launched a UK-Rwanda Migration and Economic Development Partnership to send asylum seekers who entered the UK ‘illegally’ from a safe country to Rwanda. The asylum seekers would have their claims processed in Rwanda rather than in the UK. Sasha is a part of the first batch of asylum seekers sent to Rwanda.
“My time in the UK was the worst and I took any opportunity to leave that sad place. It’s not a good place and there were no opportunities for refugees. The UK does not allow refugees to work, so you have to stay in the hotel for two years.
We get a one-off payment of 3000 pounds and a five-year guaranteed accommodation in a Rwanda refugee camp. We are provided with food and everything we’d need for five years but you’re free to move,” he told DJ Nyaami.
Sasha has been in Rwanda for a few days but is much better than in the UK. According to him, Rwandans live better lives than the British and added that he has no plans of returning to the UK.
