Ataa Maame, a Ghanaian based in the USA, disclosed that she almost lost out on her US visa lottery win, but her boyfriend (now ex) supported and travelled with her to the US.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview, Ataa Maame mentioned that her UK-based uncle told her mother it was a lie, while her rich father claimed he was broke.
“I visited my father, but he didn’t even open his gate to see me. I had to go with other family members to beg him to hear me out. At the time, I needed just GHS2000 to pay the agent, but my father told me he eats gari every day.
Meanwhile, there were cars in his house that he could sell to support me. My father only believed me after I got my visa. He helped me find someone to host me in the Bronx.
Ataa Maame’s boyfriend (now ex) and his family paid for them to travel, but they could not stay in the same place. This affected their relationship, and they eventually broke up.
According to Ataa Maame, she became suicidal while in Ghana due to the mistreatment she got from her father and stepmother. She never met her mother until she turned 19 years old.
