Adamu Yahaya, a US-based Ghanaian, spent $13,000 on his travel from Ghana to Columbia. However, he was able to earn back his money in just four months of working in America.
In an interview on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Adamu shared his journey from Columbia through Panama and, eventually, Mexico. Adamu flew from Ghana to Columbia, where he stayed for a month before making the journey to the US by road.
Adamu witnessed the death of many people while crossing the forest to Panama. He had to spend five days sleeping in the forest. Adamu found his journey from Turkey to the US easy and would do it again if he had to. However, he encountered the unfortunate reality that people died every day on his way to the US border.
“We were over 1000 people from across the world, including, Europeans making the journey. I saw people die almost every day. The Panama forest was the most dangerous path to cross. It was easier for me because I was alone. I didn’t know anyone or go with anyone, but we all knew we were headed in the same direction. I met some Ghanaian couples with kids.”
Adamu travelled across six countries to the Mexico-USA border, mostly, by bus. It took him five weeks to get to the US. Adamu was released from the asylum camp after 24 hours and got a job a few days later.
