UK-based Ghanaian Obudo has disclosed that some Ghanaians in the UK promised jobs and accommodation but leave them stranded after they arrive.
In a Daily Hustle Worldwide interview on SVTV Africa, Obudo recounted an encounter he had with a Ghanaian lady who refused to give in to their demands. The lady was left stranded at a train station until she met Obudo.
“They promise them jobs with accommodation to convince them. Most of these people do not know anyone here. They are two Ghanaians, one in Peterborough and the other in Leeds. The Peterborough guy demands sex and later sends you to Leeds claiming that’s where the job is.
The lady I met refused to give in to the guy and got lost in Manchester on her way to a job interview. She had no money to continue her journey or contact for help. She cried after she met me. So I gave her £40 to go to the interview and got the job. She had to ask for money from Ghana to rent one room,” he recounted.
Obudo added that many Ghanaians who came to the UK through the COS (Certificate of Sponsorship) route have been left stranded or deported. He added that a couple was deported at the Manchester airport after visiting Ghana because their care home company’s license had been revoked.
