Australia-based Ghanaian Acquah felt hopeless about his future in Ghana and longed to leave the country. He didn’t care about his destination.
During an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa, Acquah revealed that the future appeared bleak after completing mandatory national service in Ghana. As a result, he consulted a friend abroad on his plan to leave the country.
“Australia was not part of my plans. I wanted to go to the US or UK, but my friend convinced me that Australia was also a great place to stay. Honestly, I didn’t mind which country he took me because I was eager to leave the country. I didn’t know much about Australia, but I did a little research after he mentioned it.”
Acquah got a visitor’s visa to Australia for three months and started working in the construction industry, as he needed to acquire a skill to survive without proper documentation. It took him seven years to obtain the necessary documents.
He now works as a care worker and finds it more comfortable than his previous job in construction. Acquah spoke about life in Australia and the opportunities available for citizens.
