Former Black Stars Striker Henry Acquah disclosed that he quit the national team after the management team and Ghana Football Association refused to refund his plane ticket to Ghana.
In a chat on SVTV Africa with DJ Nyaami, Henry Acquah indicated that he had received a call-up to play for the Black Stars in 1992, but the team management failed to provide a flight ticket. He accepted the invitation and paid his flight ticket to Ghana, hoping to get a refund.
When he contacted the team for a refund of his plane ticket, the officials refused to comply. Despite his repeated requests, they did not provide any explanation or justification for their decision.
“When we were local players, we saw them buy flight tickets for the foreign players. Abedi Pele was in France at the time. I was coming from Germany and expected them to pay for my ticket, but they didn’t want to. I started to complain. I used my money to work for the Nation, and they didn’t want to pay. So I told them not to invite me again.”
Henry hoped his hard work and dedication would be recognised and rewarded, but this was not the case. He recounted a 6-yard piece of cloth he received after winning a trophy for Ghana.
Henry Acquah played for Accra Hearts of Oak before leaving for Germany, where he currently stays.
