Ghanaian artiste and mother of three, Empress Ghadafi, revealed that she chose to be a single parent because she could get more government benefits than as a couple.
In an SVTV AFRICA interview on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Empress Ghadafi mentioned that she was eligible for some support from the Canadian government as a married couple or co-parents. However, the benefits are way more as a single parent with no support from the partner.
“I’m a single parent because you have a choice in Canada. Choosing to be a single parent was my choice. I wanted to be a single parent because there were benefits that covered me. I wouldn’t have been entitled to some benefits if I had a partner.
Your income changes when your marital status changes. I didn’t want to beg someone to raise their kids. The benefits a single mother gets in Canada are different from what a couple gets,” she noted.
Empress Ghadafi relocated to Ghana about a year ago. She told SVTV Africa’s DJ Nyaami about the emotional struggles that led to her decision. According to Ghadafi, she became depressed in Canada and needed a change of environment.
Moreover, she was not in support of Canada accepting LGBTQ and did not want her kids living in that space. She said, “I brought my youngest child because my spirit does not agree with the passing of LGBTQ. They make the kids believe they have the right to choose whatever they want to be. They’ve become too liberal for this mental illness.”
