Stephen Atwire disclosed that he makes more selling on the streets than at his former office job.
Mr Atwire mentioned in a chat on Daily Hustle Ghana that he has an HND in Building Technology at Koforidua Polytechnic (Koforidua Technical University). According to Stephen, he was unemployed for months after the mandatory National Service and resorted to construction site jobs to survive.
“I could walk for miles to do construction work, but it was once or twice a week. I did it for four months. I found another one that paid GHS15 a day. It wasn’t any better because sometimes I went three days without food,” he told DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa.
Stephen mentioned that his salary at an undisclosed company was insufficient. A friend enlightened him on the profit he could make selling coconut, and Stephen accepted it reluctantly.
“I was shy initially because I’m educated, and I was thinking of what people would say. But I agreed to do it eventually. I make a profit of GHS250 per 100 pieces. People think working at the office pays, but it doesn’t. This is better than my previous jobs.”
