Sandra Werekowaa, a UAE-based Ghanaian, disclosed that she was influenced by her friend’s (in UAE) social media photos to travel to the UAE.
In a chat on Daily Hustle Worldwide, Sandra revealed that she sold her piece of land and secured a loan to pay a travel agent for a work visa to Dubai. However, Sandra has indicated that working in Dubai is not as expected, or as she saw in her friend’s photos.
“I knew that friend from my hometown. I saw nice pictures of him and asked where he was. He told me he was in Dubai and I had always wanted to travel. Eventually, I was introduced to an agent who charged me GHS5000. So, I sold my land and paid for it.
I thought that was the end, but he told me to pay for medicals and settle other payments as well. I couldn’t stop at this point because my money would have gone to waste. I got a loan to complete the process. In all, I paid GHS12,000,” she narrated.
According to Sandra, her agent informed her that she would earn GHS2,200 monthly as a cleaner, but only earns GHS900. She mentioned the difficulty of working long hours for such wages and added that she wants to return to ghana to start a business.
